A force de travail, Frank, la cinquantaine, a gravi les échelons. Il est devenu cadre supérieur dans une compagnie de fret maritime. Il a ainsi pu offrir à sa famille une vie confortable, qu’il n’a pas connue étant jeune, ayant grandi à la dure dans une ferme. Frank perd malheureusement son travail, quand, pour régler une situation de crise il a dû agir à la limite de la légalité. Il se sent trahi. Il commence par cacher son licenciement aux siens. Quand il finit par dire la vérité, son fils lui fait bien comprendre qu'il ne renoncera pas à son niveau de vie. Frank accepte alors un emploi qui requiert peu de scrupules...
